Germany 1-0 Norway

Germany
's women came through a difficult tie with a determined Norway as the European champions began their Euro 2005 bid with victory at Warrington.

Silke Rottenberg denied Unni Lehn and Ingrid Stensland was close from almost the halfway line as Norway dominated.

Germany gradually improved as the game went on and Kerstin Garefrekes fired narrowly wide, while Inka Grings wasted two good chances.

Norway continued to press and Stine Frantzen's deflected shot was turned around the post before Conny Pohlers finished well to break their hearts.
