The decision on whether to allow Welsh Premier side Bangor City to construct a new 3,000-seat stadium has been delayed by Gwynedd councillors who met on Wednesday.

The North Wales side want to move from their current Farrar Road home to a new stadium in Nant Porth which will allow them to host games in European competitions.

However, their proposals have been met by voiced concerns about the environmental impact of the scheme.

At the meeting, councillors decided they wanted to visit the proposed site and also said they wanted more details about letters received both in favour and against the application and would likely discuss the matter in a month’s time.

Should the application be granted, the new stadium would be built on the banks of the Menai Strait.

The club already have planning permission for a smaller new ground given in 2003, however, those plans have now been amended for a stadium to seat 3,000 supporters which sees a considerable improvement on the original plans.

The original plan was to include a 600-seater stand with room for 2,000 standee, however, the new proposals which would see the ground meet Welsh Premier and UEFA licensing which would be required over the next decade.

Concerns come from residents on the argument that Nant Porth is a declared area of special conservation, however, it was the council members and developers who proposed the move to Nant Porth.

Bangor
City
stadium manager Dilwyn Jones said: "This site at Nant Porth has been proposed by both the city council and developers.

"The decision to relocate us to Nant Porth starts at that end."

Bangor City's Farrar Road has been home to the club since the 1920s, however, they have had plans to move since given the go-ahead in the summer of 2003 with the Farrar Road site a potential shopping area following redevelopment of the land.
