Welsh Premier League side Port Talbot Town are delighted to welcome former Cardiff City defender David Hughes to the club as new First Team coach.

The 27-year old was forced to leave the professional game through injury after a £450,000 move to Ninian Park and in recent times has been manager with former Welsh Premier League champions Barry Town while last season he was coach at Newtown AFC.

Port Talbot
boss Wayne Davies said: “I am looking forward to working with David and I am excited about what he can bring to this club.

“He is a young man with ambition and is very highly regarded in the game by everyone I have spoken to”.

Hughes joined Aston Villa in 1995 as a trainee and spent five years at
Villa Park, making just seven first team appearances before leaving on a free in 1999 to join Shrewsbury, where he was at one point loaned out to Carlisle United.

The Bluebirds then signed the defender in 2001 but injuries led to his retirement in 2003 after making a total of just 78 Football League appearances.

Wrexham-born Hughes also played for
Wales
at ‘B’, Under-18 and Under-21 level.
