Former Wrexham midfielder Gareth Owen has been confirmed as the new manager of Airbus UK today

Owen, moves from home town club Connah’s Quay Nomads to take over the reins at the Wingmakers, who were guided to safety in the top-flight last season by Gary Wynne and Rob Lythe.

Lythe began the season as manager with Wynne as his assistant, but those roles were reversed by the end of the season.

Owen, who spent more than 10 years at the Racecourse, will work alongside assistant Alan Bickerstaffe, who was brought in towards the end of last season.

Wynne has now decided to leave the club, while Lythe has accepted a position to remain on the committee.

"
Gary has said he would love to stay on at the club, but has decided it would be better if he leaves, while Rob is keen to stay and learn from the new pair," said a club spokesperson.

"We have given Gareth a list of the Airbus squad and know Gareth has a couple of irons in the fire, but it is up to him to bring in players."

Airbus UK will be looking to improve in their second season in the top flight of Welsh football.
