Administrators Question Smith Deal

Wrexham's administrators have revealed that they were "surprised" at claims made by Surrey-based businessman Andy Smith's claims that he has agreed a deal to buy the club.

The property developer claims to have negotiated a three-week period with owner Alex Hamilton to finalise a deal for the League Two outfit.

Smith, had an exclusivity period earlier in the year to buy the club, however, there was no deal in that time, and the deal seemed off.

Yet, Smith now says he still plans to take the club out of administration and complete the buy-out of the club before the 21 days expire.

Today, a statement from administrators Begbies Traynor read:

"We are surprised at the announcement made given the minimal contact we have had with Mr Smith since March 2005.

"Until such time as we have evidence of the agreement reached between messrs Smith/Hamilton, the amount paid for exclusivity, full details of the plans for the club and its creditors, and evidence of the ability to fund those plans, we will continue to have concerns as to Mr Smith's intentions regarding the club and its assets."

Local businessman Neville Dickens was expected to launch a final bid for the club this week, in his bid to save the club.

Mr Dickens was a director of the club in the 1980s and decided to act when it seemed there was no other saviour on the horizon.
