Boland Must Take Paycut to Stay with Cardiff

Cardiff City midfielder Willie Boland will be asked to take a pay cut and accept a one-year contract to stay with Cardiff City.

Boland, 29, ended the season as a first team midfielder and could retain his place for the start of the new season in August if he stays with the south Wales club.

With a wage bill of £750,000 a month to cut, manager Lennie Lawrence must reduce the expenditure and out-of-contract players could be the easiest way to save some money.

Neal Ardley, Darren Williams, Toni Koskela are in similar situations and along with Boland will be asked to stay, however, their wage package is not yet known..

Boland has spent six years at Ninian Park, suffering mixed fortunes including a long time on the sidelines with a broken leg, as well as relegation.

He has also played a part in the good years which saw the Bluebirds move from Division Three to Division One.

Now however, Boland must decide whether to take a pay cut and try and remain in the first team for a new contract, or seek employment elsewhere in the Championship.
