Despite condemnation from other managers and club directors throughout the Championship, Cardiff manager Lennie Lawrence insists his club has done nothing wrong after taking a loan from the PFA (Professional Footballers’ Association).

Just before the transfer deadline, the Bluebirds signed Michael Boulding and Neil Ardley, and then took the loan from the PFA angering Rotherham and Notts Forest among others.

Lawrence said: "There's nothing to stop any other club doing what we did, it's like mortgaging a house."

"We've done nothing underhand and I'm disappointed it's national headlines. If you don't ask, you don't get."

As Cardiff take on Plymouth at the weekend both players could feature, if they don’t make the starting eleven.

Cardiff are more than £30m in debt as plans to build a new stadium have halted and recently had to sell skipper Graham Kavanagh to Wigan help cut and pay a monthly wage bill of £750,000. .

Speaking further Lawrence maintained:

"The amount concerned is not even a third of what has been quoted.

"Other clubs have made comments about it and they're entitled to their opinions, but I don't have an axe to grind about it.

"I am interested to know whether any of the clubs complaining have ever had money from the PFA themselves."
