Cardiff City boss Lennie Lawrence welcomed Japanese star Junichi Inamoto’s omission from the national side for this month’s WCQ match.

Japan's Brazilian coach Zico has left out the midfielder who would have had to face a long journey home to face North Korea on 9 February, and Lawrence said: "It's great news for us."

Speaking about his decision Zico said: "This is the first match on the road to Germany and I have chosen the best squad for a vital match."

Following Inamoto’s arrival at Ninian Park from West Brom, Cardiff are unbeaten in six Championship matches, and he is a key player in helping them avoid a relegation struggle as the season nears it’s close.
