Cardiff City captain Danny Gabbidon has been crossed off Everton's list of transfer targets by David Moyes.

With Cardiff needing to sell players to generate a transfer budget for new boss Dave Jones, club owner Sam Hammam has delcared that his captain could be sold if the price is right.

Moyes needs young defenders with his backline comprising ageing players including with two linked with moves away from Goodison Park.

Everton, who finished fourth in the Premiership last season, pipped Merseyside rivals, Liverpool to the final Champions League place, even though the latter won the tournament last month, and could use this as an advantage to attract players, with Simon Davies having already moved from Spurs.

A move for Gabbidon has already been discussed between Moyes and chairman Bill Kenwright, however Moyes has no interest in the 25-year old.

The Wales international is attracting interest, however, no bid has been made however Premiership sides Charlton Athletic, West Bromwich Albion and Wigan Athletic are both considering a move, while Championship sides Southampton are also interested.

Gabbidon has already declared a desire to play at a higher level, however is not actively persuing a move away from the club.

Gabbidon said: "Until someone comes in and says, 'You're going,' I am a Cardiff player.

"I have had a lot of questions as to where I am going and I haven't really got an answer.

"It would be nice to have an answer, but in the next few weeks everything will come out and I just have to sit back and see what happens."
