Cardiff City midfielder Joe Ledley is out for the remainder of the season with a fractured metatarsal – an injury that is becoming more common now in the professional game sidelining even the likes of David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard in recent times.

Wales U-21 player Ledley suffered the injury during a training session and could be out for up to six weeks.

Lennie Lawrence confirmed on the club's website that: "Joe picked up the injury in training today.

“It was an unfortunate injury that happened as Joe turned – there was no contact from anyone else.

"We expect him to have his foot in plaster for three-to-four weeks."

“As a result he will obviously miss the remaining games and we expect home to be recovered in time for pre-season training.

Following their win over Reading, Cardiff – who are three points above the relegation zone - travel to Gillingham on Saturday and host QPR at Ninian Park the following week.
