Wales U-21 international Adam Birchall has signed a two-year contract with League Two club Mansfield Town after the striker was released by Arsenal at the end of the season.

Mansfield boss Carlton Palmer has signed a trio of players as he boosts his side for the new campaign.

He said: "I want to get a balance between youth and experience and that is why my first signings were Gus Uhlenbeek and Adam Birchall.

Twenty-year old Birchall was one of a number of youth players released from Highbury by Arsene Wenger, but with Birchall on loan at Wycombe Wanderers for part of last season, he was not going to stay a free agent for long.
