Everton and Aston Villa are also interested in landing the outspoken United player of the year who spent the second half of last season on loan at Celtic, however, he is believed to want a move to a big club - which in his mind doesn't include Everton or Villa.
Celtic are rumoured to be struggling to meet Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd's asking price for Bellamy and were interested on taking Bellamy on loan for a further year - a bid rejected by Shepherd.
Shepherd said: "We played fair with everyone by letting him go to Celtic on loan since the start of the year.
"We wouldn't and couldn't do that again. We won't let him go on loan."
Celtic's first option still stands, and it is up to them to make the move for the 25-year old who impressed at Parkhead last season despite Celtic's failure to retain the SPL title.
Martin O'Neill was keen to retain Bellamy, and we understand new boss Gordon Strachan is also hopeful of clinching a deal.
Shepherd said: "If Celtic come in with an offer everyone knows we will help them in any way we can.
"When they took him on loan I promised them first option and I will honour my word."
