Championship club Stoke City have sacked manager Tony Pulis because he failed to look to Europe in a bid to sign new players.

Welshman Pulis took Stoke to 12th in the England's second flight last season although they did top the table at one point.

Potters chairman Gunnar Por Gislason said: "Despite all the good work he has done, he has failed to implement the strategy of exploiting foreign markets.

"It is felt we will again fail to exploit those markets this summer with him in control."

So far Pulis has only attracted one addition to the squad this pre-season although a number of players have left the club.
