Risdale: Cardiff Can Pay for Stadium

Cardiff City's deputy chairman Peter Ridsdale is sure Cardiff will pay for its 30,000-capacity stadium, and not the local city council, who have revealed they would step in and complete the project if the Championship club cannot pay for it.

Officials of Cardiff City Council recently said they would build the £100m project if the debt ridden club could not fund it.

"I don't believe we will reach a situation where the council steps in," said Ridsdale.

"Yes, we're facing a challenging time. But I believe the project will go ahead as planned.

"We've a management team which is fully committed to bringing the stadium about and every day, I believe we are getting closer to that."

Cardiff are believed to be nearly £30m in debt and have been relying on the Professional Footballers' Association to pay players' wages.
