Swansea City have made a £60,000 bid for Fulham midfielder Darren Pratley.
Chairman Huw Jenkins made the offer to the Premiership dlub on Tuesday and is waiting for a response from Fulham boss Chris Coleman, who was already believed to have turned down a season-long loan move for the youngster.
Jenkins revealed: "We've made an offer for Darren Pratley. We've offered £60,000 and we're waiting for a reply.
"Hopefully Fulham will come back with a 'yes.' If not we will keep trying on this one because Kenny rates him quite highly."
The 20-year old spent three months on loan at League One side Brentford, where he helped the Bees into the play-offs.
Jenkins denied talks of taking Pratley on a season-long loan basis, insisting they want the player outright
"We made an initial approach to Fulham to test the water as far as signing Darren is concerned," he explained.
"We wanted to see what their response would be so we made an enquiry. That was taken as wanting to sign him on loan which isn't the case.
"We were asking if a deal can be done and we followed that up this week with an offer."
Coleman has made clear that he wishes to have Pratley in his squad during pre-season before considering his future in London.
"Chris Coleman did make the point of saying he wanted to have him in his squad for pre-season training and then review his position," he added.
But Jenkins is not concerned over the lack of new faces in south Wales.
"We've got the nucleus of a side that can compete in League One. We possibly need three or four signings to add to what we've got," he said.
"We are in the fortunate position of not having to hurry into anything, but I'm sure over the next couple of weeks things will intensify."
