This weekend sees the end of an era - that one of the most respected men in the world will no longer be providing us with hours of entertainment when he retires.
The man in question is 45. Perhaps, you're thinking he's young to be retiring, or maybe you know where I'm going with this. In what line of work do you retire at the age of 45, and second, why is this relevant to football?
Well, it is relevant to football, and the profession, would be refereeing the beautiful game.
Because, sadly, time is up for one Pierluigi Collina, the most respected, most ridiculed and sometimes feared man in world football.
Collina has been officiating on games for as long as I can remember, and it seems somewhat unjust that undoubtedly the best referee in our game has to retire because he is seemingly "past it".
He may be 45, but he looks as fit as ever, and could probably out perform many referees half his age in the not-so-stringent refereeing fitness tests.
So it comes, his final adventure - Fiorentina v Brescia on Sunday in Florence, with Fiorentina needing to win to survive in Serie A.
While many referee's take a load of shit from players, and fall for their play acting and gamesmanship week in week out, Collina is rarely fooled, rarely wrong and appears to have 360 degree vision at times.
He probably has one of the most recognised pair of eyes in the world, and his stare can appear quite frightening, along with his bald head, should he be locked on your course.
