Two goals within a minute helped TNS take the second Welsh Cup final berth with a comfortable 3-1 win over holders Rhyl at the Racecourse Ground, Wrexham.

Last year TNS were beaten in the final by Rhyl courtesy of a 91st minute own goal from Chris Taylor which led to Rhyl's league and cup double and further heartache for the Treflan side.

Now the tables have turned and it is TNS who are chasing a doluble dream.

The holders started well with Gareth Wilson fizzing a low drive past the post, while Lee Hunt wasted an even better chance for TNS, putting a header wide from pointblank range.

With Rhyl threatening to take the initiative after 15 minutes, Rhyl conceded two goals in succession.

In the 19th minute, Scott Ruscoe threaded an accurate ball through the Rhyl defence which Wood anticipated to fire past Rhyl's helpless Paul Smith.

Just
a minute later, John Hulse's side situation worsened when Jamie Brewerton lost possession to Wilde who fired a well-placed shot into the net.

With a two-goal cushion behind them, TNS sat back and frustrated Rhyl with a solid defnesive display rarely troubled by anbything thrown at them.

A double substitution instilled some belief into Rhyl who increased their challenge anmd were rewarded for their persistence when Mark Powell headed home a Marc Limbert's cross in the 82nd minute to make it 2-1.

TNS' two goal lead was restored soon after when Wilde found Ruscoe, who finished well to ensure the Treflan side would face Carmarthen Town in the final.

Speaking after the game TNS manager Ken McKenna said, "We took our chances well and the two quick goals came just at the right time," he said.

"I was very pleased with our composure, especially after conceding that late goal which gave them a lifeline."

Rhyl manager John Hulse meanwhile was magnanimous in defeat.

"Good luck to Ken and his side," he said.

"They thoroughly deserve to be in the final.

"I could not fault the effort of my players but those two quick goals made it a big task."
