Arsenal v Blackburn Rovers Preview

Last updated : 17 April 2005 By Gary Fish

Arsenal's seventh semi-final in eight years sees Arsène Wenger's men take on former Wales manager, Mark Hughes', Blackburn Rovers as they aim for their 10th FA Cup victory.

Blackburn last featured in a semi-final in 1960.

Arsenal are the form team, havin won their last seven games, including a double over Blackburn already this season.

However, the North London club will be without Premiership leading scorer Thierry Henry (although he has only played in one cup game this season) and Sol Campbell, who is unfortunate not to be ready in time for the game at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

Edu and Freddie Ljungberg should both return after recovering from hamstring and hip problems respectively while Jose Antonio Reyes should start in Arsenal's attack.

Mathieu Flamini, Gael Clichy and Manuel Almunia join Hnery and Campbell on the injured list.

Mark Hughes looks set to have retired Wales midfielder Robbie Savage back in his squad after six weeks on the sidelines.

Savage came through 70 minutes for the reserves in midweek as rehab for a groin injury, but is unlikely to make the starting line-up.

Garry Flitcroft is expected to start as Hughes looks to name the same side that convincingly defeated Southampton last week despite a leg requiring stitches for a gash.

Despite struggling the Premiership, Blackburn have suffered just one defeat in nine game and will be geared up for a possible FA Cup Final against Man Utd or Newcastle next month.

Arsenal will start favourites even with key players injured, and would be a shock for Mark Hughes' side to progress to the final.

However, this is the FA Cup...nothing is expected to go to plan...ask Chelsea.
