Bellamy unhappy with 'vicious' Welsh fans

Craig Bellamy was far from impressed with some of the travelling support in San Marino. He was speaking to the BBC immediately after the final whistle and said

"I've played for Wales for a number of years and this was one of the worst atmospheres I've been in.

"The Welsh crowd here were very vicious, which is rare. It was an uncomfortable night to play in.

"The chanting early on was vicious and I think that took its toll on the players as well. It wasn't nice."

"This is my country and I'm desperately proud to play for my country, but tonight was the most difficult one I've been involved in."

Wales won the game 2 - 1 but it was a poor show against poor opposition. Following on from the capitulation in Cyprus it was far from impressive.

On the game Bellamy added

"The first half was good enough, we moved it around quick but the second half was very poor.

"We gave silly fouls away, got caught into their game which was very difficult, believe me, and it was very hard for ourselves."

"I hope the next 10 days we are together will be better than this one was. Okay, so this was a win, but that's all," he said.

"We set about the first half in the right way, scored two and could have had more. We were good value for that lead at the break.

"But in the second period we had to make a change because David Vaughan was struggling with a groin injury and we didn't really get started after that.

"We were not as good as we were in the first half and we gave away a needless free-kick for them to score.

"From then on, we were biting our nails and wanting the whistle.

"That was a pity because it should not have been that close. But it was difficult against a defence that did not come out."
