Cardiff Want Ugarte

Cardiff City, who have struggled to score after selling Rob Earnshaw to West Brom last year, are looking to strengthen their squad next year, have eyed up Wrexham's Basque striker Juan Ugarte as their new hit man.

Ugarte has been in fine form throughout the season for the League One strugglers despite their precarious position, scoring crucial goals including several huge hauls.

Wrexham fans, who had hoped that Ugarte will stay at the club for 2005/06, will be down-heartened at the prospect of losing the best striker at the club since the season when a 40-goal partnership of Andy Morrell and Lee Trundle led them to League One promotion. Morrell and Trundle were then sold on frees and Wrexham have struggled to find a consistent scorer until signing Ugarte from Dorchester earlier this season.
