BARRY HOGAN'S dramatic injury-time winner at Newtown's Latham Park last night gives the Saints a fighting chance of making Champions League progress when the sides meet again in Latvia next Wednesday.

Ventspils had levelled at 2-2 with just a minute of normal time remaining through striker Vits Rimkus' second goal of the game.

Earlier, Michael Wilde had opened the scoring for TNS, Rimkus equalised before Steven Beck made it 2-1 shortly after the break.

TNS skipper Tommy Holmes said his side deserved their success, TNS' first European win in 15 attempts.

"There's no doubt about it that we were the better side throughout this game," said Holmes.
