Chester Sack Aizlewood

Former Wales international Mark Aizlewood has been sacked by Chester City.

Speaking this morning Stephen Vaughan said: "We have terminated Mark Aizlewood's contract with immediate effect.

"Our chief executive, David Burford, is negotiating the settlement formalities with Mr Aizlewood and his advisers."

Aizlewood joined Chester as assistant to Ian Rush last August with the club sitting at the bottom of Leaguie Two.

After an impressive run of form Rush and Aizlewood steered the Deva Stadium club away from the relegation zone, however suffered a major loss of form at the beginning of 2005 with two wins in ten which had looked to seal the end of their reign at the Cheshire club in March.

Media reports at the time suggested that club Chairman Stephen Vaughan had offered the pair a settlement to leave their position however, this was refuted by advisers for the former Wales internationals.

Chester are currently nine points clear of the drop zone with 5 games remaining in League Two and should remain in League Two next season, with or without Rush in charge whose job may now also be under threat.
