Crossley Top Keeper Last Season

Actim Index, the official ratings system of the English top flight, has reveales that the best single performance by a goalkeeper in the Premiership last season was by Fulham keeper Mark Crossley for his amazing performance against Newcastle United.

Chelsea
goalkeeper Petr Cech was undoubtedly the best goalkeeper throughout the season but Wales veteran Mark Crossley could still teach him a thing or two.

Crossley was brought into the side in the absence of Dutch international Edwin van der Sar and made only five appearances all season, however, the 35-year-old showed why he has been on the fringes of Wales selection all these years.

He produced an inspired performance that kept Newcastle at bay for much of the game at St James' Park before as the Cottagers ran out 4-1 winners.

Crossley had already made a number of saves when Collins John opened the scoring for Fulham and he needed to be at his best to keep out a point-blank drive from Patrick Kluivert, before tipping a Laurent Robert free-kick round the post.

Fulham then went on to win comfortably with two more goals from Steed Malbranque and one from Luis Boa Morte, but still Crossley's afternoon was not over.

Welsh international Craig Bellamy finally beat him with a consolation header, but he brilliantly denied his fellow Welshman a second and Kluivert was frustrated again as he made an amazing 18 saves in the 90 minites.

Crossley has been frustrated by lack of first team action at Craven Cottage and despite Van der Sar's big move to Manchester United, Fulham boss Chris Coleman has already signed a new keeper in Jaroslav Drobny, the Czech Republic's number 2 behind Cech.

Crossley has made it known he wants to play on, and wants to be loaned out if he is not playing at Fulham.
