Danny Collins. Silly boy

The Sunderland defender has withdrawn himself from John Toshack's latest squad after earlier being overlooked against Paraguay when he was an unused sub.

"I simply told the manager that at the time I had played 20-odd Premiership games and putting six players in front of me and then not even getting onto the field as a sub was a poor show, and not to include me in the summer squad," said Collins.

"I told the manager that I would rather the break and be fresh for next season with my club and hopefully push them back into the Premiership."

He claimed, "Nobody is prouder of playing for his country than I am, but putting on six players before me at the last game was not on.

"I have been to the majority of the camps, but when six players go on before you and you're playing in the Premiership - it's taking the mickey.

"I don't know whether or not my international career is over. I hope not because anyone will tell you how much it means to me, but we will just have to see when the next squad is announced.

"The only thing I did is express my opinion that I was not happy travelling everywhere and then not even playing while players are being picked before me from the lower leagues."

This is just my opinion but Danny Collins should learn to respect who is the boss. He has made his decision and I think he will live to regret it. Ask Robbie Savage what it's like to be made an outcast from your national team. I appreciate Danny has a case to argue but it does not work like that. With all due respect he's not Ryan Giggs or Danny Gabbidon and as such is despensible.

Oh Danny Boy. Silly boy.
