Denmark 0 - 1 Wales

Wales had created several excellent chances in the first half with Bellamy and Ched Evans going close in an open game that could have seen goals at either end.

The match became more fragmented in the 2nd half as a flurry of substitutes were introduced but in the 77th minute Bellamy took possession deep and advanced on goal. His effort was inch perfect as it bobbled into the bottom right hand corner of Sorensen's net.

Wales survived late pressure as Myhill produced a superb save then saw a Danish effort hit the post before the final whistle went.

There was a full debut for Aaron Ramsey who impressed before tiring late on. He could have scored if Bellamy had spotted his unmarked run into the box before the Wales captain made a hash of his effort on goal.

Speaking after the game the Welsh boss John Toshack said:

"I'm delighted with the result.

"We had some anxious moments, but I think overall we can't fault the players who worked very, very hard for each other."

He added: "I thought we had four or five really good chances and two terrific saves from Boaz Myhill.

"We've come here without important players, so it's really pleasing to see the way the team worked and when we were in a little bit of trouble, we stuck to it."

Toshack also paid tribute to captain Bellamy who scored the winning goal.

"I asked him to play deeper and go behind and he still got his chances in the first half and scored the winning goal as well," he said.

"Ramsey and Collison also did well particularly in view of the fact there's not a great deal of experience around them.

"They are among their friends, they've all come through together."
