WREXHAM LEGENDS WEEKEND - April 22, 23 and 24th

Wrexham Supporters Trust has organised a LEGENDS Weekend to celebrate the past achievements of Wrexham AFC. With only 3 home games left this season, and still much uncertainty remaining about our clubs future, we feel this is a good time to look back on the memories that we all have of those unforgettable games on Cae Ras.........

The LEGENDS weekend will include the following events:

- Friday 22nd April: An evening with former managers at the Centenary Club
- Saturday 23rd April: A host of former stars will be present at the Luton match
- Sunday 24th April: A fundraising Legends match at the Racecourse, followed by a social evening at the Centenary Club

On the Friday evening (22nd April) fans will have an opportunity to meet a panel of former Wrexham managers, hosted by Bryn Law of Sky TV, tickets are £10 and include a Hot Pot Supper. This is being held at the Centenary Club, doors open at 7.30pm, with the evening starting at 8pm.

Tickets can be purchased from the Club shop or by phoning the Trust on 07981151958, and will also be available on the night.

Those already planning to attend are

- John Neal, who won us promotion in 1970, and then went on to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals for the first time in the club's history, as well as numerous other giant killing wins both at home and abroad.
- Arfon Griffiths, who after a distinguished player career, which saw him accumulate club record appearances which still stands to this day, saw him take the club to the Second Division for the first and only time in the clubs history, and also to an FA Cup quarter-final.
- Mel Sutton, who had one season as manager in 1981/82 and masterminded the famous FA Cup victory over Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest.
- We hope Bobby Roberts will be in attendance, he was the man who will forever have a place in Wrexham history for managing the side who
led Wrexham to victory over FC Porto in the European Cup Winners Cup.
- George Showell, who was player/trainer/coach/physio at the club for almost 25 years, as well being caretaker manger for eleven games in 1984/85 and led the club from the threat of re-election to a mid table position.
- Dixie McNeil, who after his legendary playing career with the Racecourse club, went on to lead the club to memorable European games against the likes of AS Roma and Real Zaragoza, and on the home front to the Fourth Division play-off final in 1989.
- Finally, we hope Brian Flynn, who will definitely be at the Luton game the following day, will also be able to make this evening. He holds the record of being the club's longest serving manager. He led the club to promotion in 1993, and also to numerous cup giant-killing acts, none more memorable than beating Arsenal in January 1992.

On the Saturday of the home game with Luton (23rd April), the Racecourse will see a host of former players of the club in attendance. In a mark of solidarity the players attending will be showing there concern and support for saving Wrexham Football Club.

There would be many former players in attendance, but due to prior arrangements, shifts, or those still involved in football themselves, some will not be able to attend. We have been sent messages of support, by lots of them, including Frank Carrodus Dai Davies, Gordon Davies, Lee Jones, Waynne Phillips, Mark Sertori, Eddie Tunney and Steve Watkin.

However, those who will be showing there support on the day cover over half a century of players, they include the likes of; Billy Ashcroft, Gary Bennett, Les Cartwright, Wayne Cegielski, Graham Cooper, Jonathan Cross, Andy Edwards, Brian Flynn, Alan Fox, David Gregory, Nick Hencher, Brian Lloyd, Techwyn Lloyd-Jones, Alec Lucas, Stuart Mason, Ian Moir, Ernie Phythian, Dennis Reeves, Bobby Shinton, Ken Simpkins, Peter Thompson and Tom Vansitart to name but a few.

If there any other ex-players reading this, who haven't been notified of this event, then we would love to see you giving your support in our time of need. Please contact the club.

The LEGENDS weekend concludes on the Sunday with a Legends match at the Racecourse Ground. The kick off is at 12 noon, and the cost of entry will be £3 for adults and £1 for kids. The match will be between former Wrexham players, and a Manchester City Veterans side that includes the likes of Peter Barnes, Kevin Reeves and John Burridge, while the Wrexham side will consist of the likes of Brian Lloyd, Karl Connolly, Mel Pejic, Wayne Phillips, Andy Edwards, Dave Gregory, Billy Ashcroft, and Gary Bennett.

Following the game there will be a fans forum with the players at the Centenary Club which will include a Hot Pot and a chat with the players at a cost of £5, pay on the door.

We hope Wrexham fans of all era's will support and enjoy all these events. Support the trust. Support the future of Wrexham FC.
