"There is a genuine belief in the squad that we can go out to the Czech Republic and win.

"You've got to go into a new qualifying campaign confident, and why shouldn't we believe we can win?

"Perhaps we haven't got as many experienced players as we did at the start of the previous campaign, but we're still a very good team when we've got our best XI on the pitch.

"With Craig Bellamy and Ryan Giggs firing at the moment, and the squad in general coming together nicely, it's looking good for us.

"And if we're able to field our strongest XI, I'm sure we can give the Czechs a good game and get a good result.

"Of course it's going to be tough, but we're not going there just to pick up a draw.

"We'll be eager to win and we'll do our best to win."

"This is a massive game on Saturday, the first game of the qualifiers, hopefully we can go over to the Czech Republic and get a result.

"We can nick it we think, obviously we're going over there to get a win, we're not going over there just to make the numbers up.

"There's a real feeling around the squad that we can do it this time. We've got some great players. There's a good atmosphere amongst everyone and we're all looking at one thing now and that's to qualify for Euro 2008.

"It probably's a good time to play the Czechs to be honest. They've had people retire, Nedved for example and he was obviously one of their best players.

"But they've got a strong squad, so we've got to go out there and do what we've got to do and not worry about them too much.

"I think the way we played against Bulgaria has given us a lot of confidence.

"We didn't get the result we wanted, but we felt we played some pretty good football against them and we should've won really.

"The good thing is though that we haven't lost in a couple of games now and I think that means we go into this game with a good spirit and a lot of confidence.

"Getting a good run of results is important, but Saturday's game is the big one for us now. It's the first qualifier and we need to do well.

"But the thing people need to remember is that there's a lot of games to be played, so if it happens that we don't get a result this time, it's not the end of things, there's still a long way to go.

"Sure people will look at our group and see Germany and the Czech Republic and say that's the two teams who will go through, but we've got to put any thoughts like that out of our minds.

"We aren't there to make up the numbers, we are going into this hoping to qualify and we're all really looking forward to getting started."
