Wales winger Ryan Giggs is expected to sign a new contract with Manchester United because there is no standoff in the ongoing negotiations, according to Sir Alex Ferguson, speaking on Sky Sorts News today.

"This has been going on all the time really," he said of the contract talks. "It's unfair.

"Of course we've been negotiating and talking to him but nothing like the press are making out, that there's some sort of impasse that can't be bridged.

"We're very close. Ryan wants to stay and we want him to stay."

Giggs is said to be holding out for a two-year deal, with his current contract due to end this summer, however, Manchester United’s contract policy is to give players over 30 years a one-year extension only.
