Ryan Giggs

"I would just like to say a big thank-you to everybody for the support they have given me. It has been an emotional week that was rounded off with the reception I got when I came off. I'm very grateful to all the Wales fans for that.

"They have always been great with me and I will miss them. It has been difficult for me saying goodbye to everyone, all very emotional. I was intent on savouring every moment, the anthem for the last time, everything.

"Obviously it was a big decision so I wanted to remember everything for the last time, the final training session and walking out at the stadium. It was just a shame that we could not get the result we wanted."

"Craig Bellamy is the new captain now and I wish him all the best. There is not a better choice. He is a proud Welshman and I am sure he will make a very good captain."

Craig Bellamy

"We were desperate to send him off with a win. We are disappointed we couldn't get the win for him or the win that he deserved with his performance.

"We are taking away our best player and it's going to dent our team, but we are going to have to cope with it. It was a nice moment getting the armband from Ryan at the end, but it hasn't sunk in yet that he won't be with us any longer.

"It probably will when we link up next, and when Ryan won't be there, and he will certainly be missed."

John Toshack

"Ryan told the boys this is how Wales should perform every game, because we must be realistic of who we are and who we are playing. Ryan said that was as good a display as we have given in recent years, and he's right.

"In a strange way, our poor performance and the criticism of drawing to New Zealand last week helped us refocus our minds. The young lads are learning and that was a fitting send off for Ryan.

"I'm glad 30,000 people turned up to see him off as under the circumstances that is a decent crowd. I don't think you could expect 40,000 people to all of a sudden come and say their goodbyes.

"Ryan has been a great captain and led by example. He is a perfectionist and that has rubbed off on the youngsters because they listen to him."
