Coleman was hit by the withdrawals of Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen and Leeds striker Steve Morison due to injury over the weekend, with forward Jermaine Easter the only immediate replacement.
But the FAW has confirmed Bristol City defender Nyatanga, 24, will be given the opportunity to add to his 34 caps in a game where Wales are looking to build on their encouraging win over Austria last month in the qualifying double-header.
Coleman's men are seven points adrift of Group A pacesetters Croatia and Belgium and face an uphill battle if they are to end their long wait for a place at a major finals.
