Well, Toshack has been appointed now and a few of the senior squad members have decided to call it a day, but not Savage who is looking to add to his 38 caps for his country.
"My ambition is to win at least 50 caps, so it goes without saying I want to continue my international career," he told the ICWales website.
"Regardless of who the manager is, I would run through brick walls to keep my place in the Wales team.
"I never made any secret of the fact that I favoured Gary Speed for the task of replacing Sparky.
"I still think he would have been the best man for the job. But it was not to be, especially after Gary made it clear he wanted to continue playing at the highest level.
"I'm delighted, though, the job has gone to a Welshman.
"I believe our make-up as a nation demands someone who thinks like we do and with the inbred sense of pride which comes with pulling on the red shirt.
"Whether I will be doing that again myself is obviously out of my hands.
"I understand the logic of Mr Toshack planning to start looking to bring in younger players.
"Like Ryan Giggs and John Hartson, I've just turned 30. But, as I'm sure they would also say, I'm as fit as I've always been and believe I still have something to contribute to Wales."
