Tosh hoping for better next time the players get together

"I hope the next 10 days we have together will be better than this one has been," said Tosh.

"We still have a lot of work and talking to do, and maybe have to change the attitude of some of them still.

"Younger players must understand that they have to receive a rollicking from time to time, these days it seems you cannot have a go at these younger players. They seem to think they know it all.

"You try to eradicate errors and they look at you as if you do not know what you are talking about.

"We have to put that right and we still need to work hard to get to the level we want."

Toshack was speaking after the narrow 2 - 1 win in San Marino. There were jeers from the Welsh crowd aimed at the players as reported in the previously Craig Bellamy story. Toshack remained diplomatic on the issue

"I always think that the supporter, the customer, is always right. You pay your money and you have your say.

"When people have travelled all this way to support the team, and paid out a lot of money, they are entitled to have their say and shout whatever they want."

"We need to get ourselves sorted out, grit our teeth and go for it. I would like to think they (the players) realise what an important game the Republic Ireland will be for us.

"We can still get something out of this group and if we beat Ireland we can go above them.

"We will have a few players back with us we have missed on this trip, you never know what we can achieve. And even away to Germany in the last game we could be facing a team trying out new people.

"This has not been a good week. We have got to start to push ourselves even more. There is still a lot of work to do."

On the match itself he said "It was a win yes, and in the first half we set about things the way we intended.

"But it was sad that we were left biting our nails after giving away a totally unnecessary free-kick.

"We had done the hard bit against defenders that do not come out. But we did not build on it.

"We should not have been biting our nails at the end, we should now be looking forward to the next game against Ireland with a good result under our belt."
