Toshack Ponders First Wales Squad

New Wales boss John Toshack is considering bringing in two largely unknown players into his first Squad of his second reign in the position, in the shape of Danny Collins and Gavin Williams.

Toshack is currently mulling over players to face Hungary at the Millennium Stadium on February 9th with the squad due to be announced this week.

When he took the job up, Toshack was quick to tell everyone of his want to bring the youth through, however, it is likely that he will keep many of the usual suspects for his opening game in charge, bringing in only a few inexperienced players as everyone gets used to the new regime.

As a result Craig Bellamy and Robbie Savage, both outspoken against Toshack’s appointment, and both having recently had frosty times at club level, will be included in Toshack’s plans.

The new faces are likely to be 24-year-old West Ham midfielder Williams and Sunderland defender Collins, also 24, after both players made promising impacts on their clubs following early season moves.

Toshack has revealed he has been impressed with Collins and Williams and their reward is to be included with the senior players who will all be out to prove that they are good enough to continually be in Toshack’s plans.

It is likely that Toshack will give Collins a start in his first XI to face the Hungarians, as a central defensive partner to regular Danny Gabbidon.

Williams will most likely begin on the bench, coming on at some point in the game possibly with West Ham clubmate Carl Fletcher, who had done himself many favours under previous Wales manager, Mark Hughes.
