Toshack's first 20 games

ACCORDING to John Toshack, one Sunday newspaper suggested he was "on the brink" as the fall-out began from the Euro 2008 defeat to the Republic of Ireland at the weekend.

Presuming they didn't mean on the verge of qualifying, or a golden era for Welsh football, I can only guess it was Toshack being on the brink of the sack.

The reality, I'm afraid, is entirely different. Whatever one thinks about the Toshack reign with Wales to date, the fact is he has the most secure job in British football.

Bar none. Yes, even more secure than Arsene Wenger, Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho.

Toshack's paymasters at the FA of Wales don't get rid of their managers halfway through their tenure. The powerbrokers who run Welsh football remain 100 per cent supportive of the job Toshack is doing.
