The 20-year-old Southport-born player, who can play for Wales or England, followed the club as a child and told the club's website that he hoped to bring success to Deepdale.
"I spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson when I came back after the month break and he was keen for me to go on loan somewhere this season," he said.
"And Preston is the perfect club for me.
"Preston is a great club and I'm delighted to be here.
"Beckham has come here before and, hopefully, I can do what he did, because he did well here and went back and had a big impact at Manchester United.
"The club did really well last season and my dad followed the club as a kid, so I know a lot about them.
"I hope to improve individually, give the team some success and hopefully get Preston into the Premiership."
Jones was unveiled at Deepdale on the same day as Stoke winger Lewis Neal, who has signed a three-year deal.
