Lions make enquiries to sign Warner

Millwall boss Steve Claridge has confirmed he wants to take Cardiff City goalkeeper Tony Warner back to the New Den.

Warner, once a team mate of Claridge, has had discussions about a move back to his old club although the move depends on a couple of issues.

The first issue is Warner's future at Cardiff and what role new boss Dave Jones sees him in this season - it is believed that Jones rates Warner highly and it's known he tried to sign Warner for Wolves during his spell in charge at Molineux.

If Warner will be regular in the first team then he will likely stay in south Wales, however, with City not short of senior 'keepers and needing to slash their wage bill, Warner could be allowed to leave, with Claridge on stand by to offer Warner a move back to London.

There could be a problem there too with Millwall unable to sign players without assistance from other clubs for wages, meaning City would have to, in part, still pay Warner.

"Tony Warner and Marlon King are two people who we have made enquiries about," said Claridge.

"I don't think it is about what we can offer them because we are much more reliant on their existing clubs for help.

"We are not expecting to be able to sign anyone without that help.

"The two of them are two of many we are chasing but it has got no further than that.

"But we have made an enquiry and our position has been made very clear to everyone involved."
