Oster joins Royals

Reading have signed Wales international midfielder John Oster on a one-year deal.

The 26-year old Oster - who last week was on loan at Championship rivals Millwall - joins the Royals along with Chris Mackin.

Oster first burst on to the scene came at Grimsby Town, and in 1997 earned a big £1.5million move to Premiership side Everton.

The Welsh winger never got it together on Merseyside, and just two seasons later Peter Reid paid the Toffee's £1million to sign Oster for Sunderland.

He made a total of 67 appearances for the Black Cats, but while on-loan at Leeds United last season, his loan was terminated following an "off the field" incident at the United Christmas party, and subsequently he was released by Sunderland as well.

He also had a spell with Burnley at the end of last season but was released this summer following a mass clear out at Turfmoor.

Oster will provide much cover on the right wing for the Royals, facing competition from Glen Little, who was disappointing last season.

Oster has been in and out of the international set-up with Wales, picking up 13 caps, the most recent in a 2-2 draw with Northern Ireland last September.
