Savage should be fit for season opener

Robbie Savage says he is recovering well from his groin injury and should be fully fit for the start of the new season.
The Wales midfielder has yet to reach the form seen at Birmingham City since his move to Ewood Park and the player blames the fact that he was never fully fit following a groin injury.

Savage picked up the knock back in February and had to play through the pain barrier for the remainder of the season.

The 30-year old could not train properly but after undergoing an operation in the summer he now hopes all his problems are behind him.

"I've done the stretching, pool work, biking and jogging and now it's six weeks after the operation I can start sprinting and twisting and turning," Savage revealed.

"So I can join in pre-season, hopefully I can get my fitness from there, and I should be match fit at the start of the season.

"If I was fully fit now I'd want the season to start tomorrow."
