Swansea Secure Services of Akinfenwa

Swansea City have agreed personal terms with out-of-contract Torquay United striker Adebayo Akinfenwa, with the transfer fee to be set by a tribunal as Swansea failed to offer a fee to the League Two side.

Having originally learned a fee would be involved, Kenny Jackett withdrew his offer for the 23-year old, however, with Grant Holt signing a new deal with Rochdale and Swansea desperate to bolster their front line, they returned to try and secure the services of Bayo, which they have now done.

Torquay chairman Mike Bateson has announced his disappointment at the way Swansea handled the deal.

"Swansea have not made any offer and I am frankly disappointed that they should choose this route," he said.

"My understanding of the system is that a tribunal will deal with transfers only when normal negotiations have failed to come up with an agreement.

"I hope that our part in improving Akinfenwa's career is taken on board when the committee reach a decision."
