Coach's Early Thougts on Austria

Last updated : 14 March 2005 By Gary Fish

Speaking last month about the up-coming double header with Austria, John Toshack revealed: “Any slim chance that we may still have passes if we don't get six points.

"It's not going to be easy. They're a tough, uncompromising side.

"I don't think they've got more quality than us if we have all our players fit. But they will be fit and strong, and they run hard."

Obviously disappointed about injuries to key players in the run up to Wales impressive 2-0 victory over Hungary last month Toshack said: “One thing I learned is that you can have an idea of who you want to play but you've got to be prepared for things happening," he said.

"Players get injured the weekend before an international and so you've then got to pick a way of playing that suits the players you've got.

"You've also got to have one eye on the opposition - maybe more so than you would at club level, and particularly for a country with limited resources like we have."

Hinting at squad selection Tosh announced: “There won't be many changes from the last squad but we will be hoping that some of the people who unfortunately had to pull out will be around."

John Toshack will reveal his squad for the World Cup 2006 Qualifiers against Austria in March at 1pm on Monday 14th March 2005.
