"He was captain for my first game in charge against Hungary and his attitude was spot on.

"He got injured in that game, but insisted on playing on through the pain. Rob was then out injured for three weeks, but it underlined his commitment to the cause.

"He was everything I wanted in a captain, but unfortunately Rob got injured towards the end of last season and only regained his Coventry place recently.

"In the meantime, our younger players like Lewin Nyatanga and James Collins have come in and done really well next to Danny Gabbidon.

"Rob knows that, but he has bowed out with dignity and in the right manner. I wish him the very best for the rest of his career."
