Tosh on Squad Call-Ups

Tosh named four uncapped players in his first Wales squad for a friendly with Hungary on 9 February in Cardiff.

West Ham midfielder Gavin Williams, Sam Ricketts of Swansea, Sunderland's Danny Collins and Dave Partridge of Motherwell all received their first calls.

Goalkeeper Paul Jones, currently on loan at Watford from Wolves, has been left out, however, as Tosh looks to his options for when Jones puts away his gloves.

Tosh admitted Jones' age was part of the reasoning in his decision not to select him, however added that the door is not closed for him.

"If he keeps his chin up and keeps performing, you never know," Toshack said

One of the candidates for captaincy, Mark Delaney, is ruled out with a knee injury, while James Collins, seen to be a player for the future, was named Under-21 skipper, while Tosh considers other options available to him.

Player of the moment for all the wrong reasons, Newcastle's Craig Bellamy, was included in the squad as well as another potential skipper, Blackburn's Robbie Savage, who both criticised the new manager's potential appointment before the decision was made.

When asked about Bellamy’s club situation, Tosh refused to comment on the debacle, saying: "It is not something I want to comment on, I have named Craig and that is it."

The Gaffer has stayed largely with the squad previous manager Mark Hughes had available to him with the main absentees being those players who chose to retire after the games with England and Poland in October.

Following Gary Speed’s retirement a new captain will need to be named, with Savage, Delaney, Celtic’s John Hartson and Man Utd’s Ryan Giggs the leading contenders.
