Wales U21s ended up comprehensively beaten in this European Championship Qualifier despite given a battling performance.

The Germans controlled possession from the kick off however Wales managed to hold their own in the opening minutes and a lobbed Richard Duffy through-ball almost set up David Vaughan for the home team.

Brian Flynn's nightmare began on 15 minutes as Wales fell behind captain James Collins failed to deal with a ball from Fulham’s Moritz Volz down the right flank and Sahr Senesi raced in to fire a powerful shot past Price into the roof of the net from a narrow angle.

Wales continued to fight however, and some neat work on the left from Man Utd’s Ramon Caliste set Peter Gilbert free in the box only for the full-back's tame shot to trickle wide.

The lead was doubled just 10 minutes later as Alexander Ludwig was allowed to advance too far before unleashing a low long-range drive into the corner to beat Wales ‘keeper Lewis Price.

Wales
’ problems got worse on the half hour mark when, captain, James Collins, who was dropped from the Senior squad, specifically to lead the backline, was stretchered off with an ankle injury.

Wales
fought on however, and were a much improved side after the break with their best chance falling to Joe Ledley on 56 minutes, however, his looped header went agonisingly wide

Wales
limited Germany’s possession in the second half as they displayed some sublime passing and moving, however, never managed to produce anything constructive towards getting a goal back.

Germany
looked capable of adding to their tally, and did so on 79 as Hanke let fly with a monster of a shot that flew into the far corner to put the game beyond doubt.

To compound matters, they added a fourth right before the final whistle when a loose ball broke to Jansen on the edge of the area and he fired home a first-time shot, taking a deflection as it went past Price.
