WALES soccer star Craig Bellamy hit the headlines again last night amid accusations that he brandished a golf club in a row with a Liverpool teammate.
A London newspaper claimed Bellamy and Norwegian defender John Arne Riise clashed in the early hours of Friday morning in a Portuguese hotel following a karaoke session.
Liverpool FC refused to discuss the story, saying: "We're not prepared to make any comment."
Neither Bellamy nor his representatives were quoted in the story, but reports say he and Riise clashed over the Scandinavian's refusal to take part in a sing-song on the supposed bonding trip.
It is alleged they hurled abuse at each other before returning to the hotel at 2am, where Cardiff-born Bellamy had to be separated from Riise by team boss Rafa Benitez.
The alleged incident occurred just days before Liverpool play European champions Barcelona in a vital Champions League clash.
If the claims turn out to be true it must put Bellamy's future in doubt at the club.
The 27-year-old had previously left Newcastle United under a cloud after a bust-up with the team's management.
The report claims the squad had been drinking at an upmarket Algarve bar following five days of training in Portugal.
It quotes an "inside source" as saying: "There had been a lot of drinking and everybody was enjoying themselves.
"But it all went wrong when Craig tried to drag John up for a song.
"There was a karaoke competition going on but John's a quiet one off the pitch and wasn't having it at all.
"It started off as a bit of a laugh with some of the other lads having a go but then it got completely out of hand. John went ballistic because Craig wouldn't take no for an answer. He was screaming at Craig to leave him alone, saying he wouldn't do it and yelling insults.
"Everyone was really stunned by it because they were really having a go, standing there toe-to-toe, swearing at each other. There were about 20 players in the bar, including all the senior players like Steven Gerrard, Peter Crouch and Dirk Kuyt."
The newspaper alleged another unnamed player had been handcuffed for trying to headbutt a policeman and that others had smashed electrical equipment at their four-star hotel with their golf clubs.
The "source" added: "This was meant to be a bit of rest and relaxation with light training to get the team acclimatised for the Nou Camp on Wednesday, but this fight has ruined everything."
Bellamy, who has 42 caps for Wales, has never been far from the headlines for his off-the-pitch behaviour since his debut for Norwich City in 1997.
The £60,000-a-week star famously fell out with boss Graeme Souness at Newcastle after publicly accusing his manager of lying, and allegedly sending abusive text messages to captain Alan Shearer.
Last year he was acquitted of an alleged assault on a 19-year-old girl in a Cardiff nightclub.
