Delaney set for comeback

Aston Villa and Wales defender Mark Delaney is expected to turn out for the Midlands side's reserve team after spending the opening weeks of the season out with a knee injury.

In an increasingly frustrating time at Villa Park for the former Carmarthen Town and Cardiff City man, Delaney underwent minor surgery after picking up a knee injury in pre-season, spending yet more time on the treatment table.

Villa boss David O'Leary said: "It is good he is back in contention and when he is fit he is Villa's Mr Dependable."

Delaney joined Villa in 1999 in a dream move from Cardiff City, but now into his sixth season with the Premiership side, the 29-year old has made just 132 appearances, spending half his time there injured, and will be hoping to work his way into contention for a call up to the Wales squad next month for World Cup qualifiers against Northern Ireland and Azerbaijan.
