Spurs to appoint Englishman?

Spurs manager Martin Jol has revealed that his club's new sporting director could be an Englishman.

Following the shock departure of Frank Arnesen to Chelsea this summer, the north London club are looking to maintain their management structure implemented by owner Daniel Levy.

Jol told a national radio station: "There are so many things at a professional club nowadays, especially a big club like Spurs. I think you need somebody.

"And I think it could be an English person. It's an advantage, you can talk English. One Dutchman is enough."

Arnesen was responsible for bringing in the new players among other duties, however, since his move across London, Jol has taken up some of Arnsen's roles in the meantime, and it had been mooted that the club could revert to a more typically "British" management system.

However, the affable Dutchman is a supporter of the European system they had in place and believes the club will continue to operate in that manner.

"We need somebody who's working well with us and if we find him then I think the structure will be the structure," Jol added.

"Last year we showed it worked - our former coach left and the next day it was the same.

"We shouldn't hurry things. It's always difficult to find the right person."
