Bluebirds after Todorov

Cardiff City are trying to lure Portsmouth striker Sveloslav Todorov to Ninian Park.

The Bluebirds are desperately trying to bolster their attack and are negotiating with the Premiership club over a long-term loan deal for the Bulgarian striker who is has just come back from a harrowing two-year injury spell and would be unlikely to walk straight into the Portsmouth starting XI.

Todorov is highly thought of at Fratton Park and has a proven goals record at Championship level, however, Pompey boss Alain Perrin wants him loaned out so he can get back to full sharpness elsewhere.

City boss Dave Jones is understood to be an admirer of Todorov and sees the experienced marksman as the man he has been looking for to lead his line.

"The phone has been red hot, and Cardiff are one of the teams who have shown interest," confirmed Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric.

"Toddy is going to go out on loan to sharpen up.

"If he agrees a move of this sort it will benefit him and there has been strong dialogue with a few clubs."

Todorov, who has played just 45 minutes of competitive action since suffering cruciate ligament damage on the eve of the 2003-04 season, is a big hit at Fratton Park following his move from West Ham three years ago.
