Hartson will be back in Wales soon enough as the Baggie's face Cardiff City at Ninian Park on August 8th.

Big John though may want to spend more time in Wales. He's not ruled out an international comeback

"Playing for Wales meant everything to me.

"I won nearly 50 caps in 10 years and every time I played it was special for me.

"It was a very hard decision for me to retire from international football but I wanted to spend more time with my kids.

"Now, I think that if I was asked to come back then I would have to give it serious consideration.

"Beyond that I haven't really given it much thought and there hasn't been any contact from John Toshack."

In a poll run by the Western Mail 83% of those that voted said they did NOT want Hartson back in the Wales squad.

Hartson retired from the inbternational scene because of turmoil in his private life. He's now in the middle of a divorce that saw his wife and kids leave Scotland for Wales. John is more settled now and the move to the Midlands means he can see the kids more often.

'My personal situation has got better now,' he said.

'I'm seeing my children a lot and now I'm closer to them.

'I'm going through a divorce and it is getting done through the lawyers. I'm a lot clearer in my head now.

'The fact I can now be nearer my family is a bonus.

'My kids are my life.

'They're seven and three and you can't get that time back. They're babies now and they need their dad.

'My dad can bring my boy up at weekends to watch me play. He is only three but he loves coming to the games and all the family that have missed out over the last five years while I have been in Scotland can join in.'

'Something had to give and it was Wales,' he said.

'There was a period when I was away with Wales and I shouldn't have been. Anyone else in my position wouldn't have gone to the games in Northern Ireland and Cyprus last year.

'My head wasn't right and at that particular time I just didn't want to be there.'
