Cardiff City captain Darren Purse last night urged manager Dave Jones to rescue Geoff Horsfield from his West Brom nightmare.
Jones is desperately searching for a proven goalscorer to help fire Cardiff into the play-offs and club owner Sam Hammam has reassured the former Southampton and Wolves boss that there's still a little cash in their limited transfer kitty to sign a striker.
Jones is keen to sign Portsmouth's Sveloslav Todorov depsit the Bulgarian forward playing just 45 minutes football in two years, however, Purse believes that his good pal Horsfield is the man for the job.
Horsfield, despite winning promotion to the Premiership twice - with Birmingham and West Brom - has failed to step up to the challenge of the Premiership and has slipped down the pecking order at The Hawthornes, while Baggies boss Bryan Robson is still looking to bring in new fowards.
Purse said: "Geoff certainly knows where the goal is and if the manager could get him it'll be a massive, massive bonus for us.
"He's big, strong and a consistent Championship goal-scorer. He's a winner and you need plenty of those in your side."
Jones' only current striker likely to get goals is youngster Cameron Jerome, however, he is keen to partner Jerome with an experienced campaigner who is capable of hitting 20 goals a season.
Jones' other current striking options are Alan Lee, Andy Campbell and Stuart Fleetwood, who between them managed a poor seven goals between them last season - with Lee scoring all of them!
Horsfield could be allowed to leave the Midlands on the cheap, as it would enable Robson to free up wages which could help him as he looks to sign Wigan's Nathan Ellington.
If Horsfield joins the Bluebirds, he will be the third player to move from West Brom to Cardiff this summer, following Purse and Jason Koumas, who is on laon.
Purse added: "I've been a team-mate of Geoff's for five or so years as he was with me at Birmingham and West Brom and if the gaffer can get him, he'll be a great player for us."
