Former Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers versatility man Paul Warhurst is training with League Two side Wrexham with a view to earning a short-term contract in north Wales.

Since dropping from the top flights of English football Warhurst has spent the last two seasons playing for lower league clubs ending last season at Forest Green Rovers.

Wrexham manager Denis Smith believes the experienced 36-year-old could be a valuable addition to his side as he looks to guide the troubled club back to League One at the first attempt.

Smith said: "He certainly brings a great deal of experience with him.

"It's now a matter of sifting through who is available, who has been recommended and who is being offered out on loan.

"I'm doing my research on players all the time, trying to find the one that will fit into my plans and at a price we can afford."

In a career spanning 17 years, Stockport-born Warhurst has played for 12 clubs, making close to 300 appearances and is coming close to the end of his playing days, finding himself now playing sporadically in the lower echelons of English football.
